Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara won’t be in the Premier League squad for the away game at London club Brentford this weekend after he picked up an injury last weekend. The ex-Barcelona and Bayern Munich midfield maestro suffered a calf problem during the Premier League home clash with London team Crystal Palace on Saturday. Thiago played his part in the game which ended in a 3-0 win thanks to the goals from Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and substitute midfielder Naby Keita.

Spanish international Thiago and his Liverpool teammates were able to secure their place at the Premier League summit thanks to the big win over South London outfit Crystal Palace. Liverpool share top spot with rivals Chelsea in the Premier League.

Thiago was ruled out of the league clash with newly promoted side Brentford by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp during his pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of the game. Klopp told media personnels that Thiago might not play for Spain again before the international break. To this effect, the Spaniard might not be in the Liverpool squad for the Champions League trip to La Liga champions Atletico Madrid next week Tuesday and the mammothPremier League clash with defending champions Manchester City at home next weekend in addition to the abovementioned league outing with the Bees.

With his latest injury, Thiago might miss out on the Spain squad for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier next month. He was part of the Spain squad that reached the last four at the Euro 2020 tournament in the summer. Thiago and Spain were eliminated by Italy on penalties at the semifinal stage of Euro 2020. The Italians went on to win the Euro 2020 tournament by virtue of another penalty shootout win over England. Both the games against Spain and England ended 1-1 before Italy prevailed via penalties.
