WHITE TO UNDERGO ARSENAL MEDICAL

Brighton and Hove Albion utility defender Ben White is on course to undergo his medical at Arsenal on Wednesday as he closes in on a big money move to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

Arsenal had been in discussions with the Seagulls over a deal for White before they reached an agreement for him several days ago. The Gunners will pay a premium transfer fee of £50m for White plus a sell-on clause inserted into the imminent transfer taking the England international from Brighton to North London.

The Gunners have had to wait to complete the signing of England international defender White as he was on holiday after being part of the Three Lions squad to Euro 2020. The Brighton and Hove Albion player was unused by England manager Gareth Southgate throughout the Euro 2020 tournament.

White would have missed out on Euro 2020 altogether if not for the injury sustained by Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Liverpool player picked up an ankle injury in the friendly win over Austria before Euro 2020 started and he was ruled out of the tournament as a result. White was named as the replacement for Trent in the England squad to Euro 2020 as he was promoted from standby list to main list.

Euro 2020 ended earlier this month with Italy as champions for the second time in the history of the European Championships following the dramatic penalty shootout win over England. The Italians didn’t have it their own way as they had to dig deep to their reservoir to overcome the Three Lions.

Luke Shaw gave England the lead inside the first two minutes for the fastest goal in the history of the Euro final. Italy trailed until the midpoint of the second time when experienced centre back Leonardo Bonucci scored from close range to tie the game and take it into extra time and penalties. Italy then beat England 3-2 on penalties to win the game.
